Robert Shapiro

Sales Manager

Robert is a 27 year veteran of the natural and organic foods industry, with experience as diverse as sales, marketing, new product development, international sales, and organic certification services. Beginning in 1980 and continuing through the late 1990s, he pioneered brands in the emerging categories of soyfoods, organic foods, and environmental products.

During his 15 years as VP of sales for an import/export company, he developed the American Prairie line of organic products, which served as a vehicle for small family farmers to sell their crops both here and overseas. On behalf of the company, Robert worked closely with European certification agencies to ensure that its Farm Verified Organic (FVO) products met or exceeded their rigid organic standards. The multifaceted company was also the exclusive importer and marketer of Ecover (Belgium) environmental products, and Rapunzel (Germany) chocolates.

In 2001, Robert co-founded a natural products brokerage company servicing the northeast. His responsibilities included distributor headquarter calls, supermarket and natural chain account management, key independent retail coverage, vendor relations, and internal operations.

Robert lives in Connecticut with his wife, a professional photographer and teacher. Their daughter has recently embarked on a post-graduate program of homeopathy and naturopathic studies, and is an avid photographer. Sometimes, the apple does not fall far from the tree...
